The UK brought in a new law, the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023, to stop criminals from hiding behind fake companies.
Before this, someone could set up a company without ever proving who they really were. Now, every company director and anyone who owns a big share of a company (called a PSC) must prove their identity to Companies House.

Following the implementation of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023, the requirement for director verification has formally begun.
While you do not need to verify immediately today if you are an existing director, you must complete verification before your next Confirmation Statement filing. Complete your companies house id verification before the deadline.
Failure to verify by this deadline will prevent your company from filing its Confirmation Statement, which can lead to the company being struck off the register. New directors must verify before their appointment is registered.
